Fighting Corruption

This is a common accusation that is often made against politicians, but it is important to note that not all politicians engage in corrupt practices. Many Jamaican politicians are known as the secret criminals stealing from the public for many decades. They go into the office as a "pauper" and becomes a multimillionaire within the first term in office.  Some politicians may indeed become wealthy during their time in office, but this does not necessarily mean that they are stealing from the public.

There are many factors that can contribute to a politician becoming wealthy while in office, such as investments, book deals, speaking engagements, and other forms of income that are not necessarily related to their political position. Additionally, some politicians may come from wealthy backgrounds or have successful careers outside of politics that contribute to their wealth. Name the Jamaican politicians were millionaires before going into office, and even if they were, name the honest ones who didn't steal.

While there are certainly instances of corruption and unethical behavior among politicians, it is unfair to make blanket statements accusing all politicians of stealing from the public. It is important to hold politicians accountable for their actions and ensure transparency and accountability in government, but it is also important to consider each individual case and avoid making broad generalizations.

Harry Truman, a former U.S. President says, "Show me a man that gets rich by being a politician, and I'll show you a crook." We have many here in Jamaica.

What do you think the punishment should be for a politician who steals from the public?
